Description: Housing rehabilitation activities on nine (9) residential structures in the Park Street project area, as well as the demolition of two (2) vacant, dilapidated residential structures.
Rationale: The Town of Gate City has quantified as one of its top community-wide priorities the rehabilitation/repairs of low-income, owner-occupied homes, bringing housing standards up to code. As a result of discussions regarding future strategies to address housing needs within the locality, Town officials have deemed the Park Street neighborhood as a clear and immediate need, and the top priority and opportunity to address housing rehabilitation needs. The Park Street housing Rehabilitation project addresses an identified area of substandard housing, as will envisioned phases in adjacent areas.
Benefits: The project will result in the following benefit to the Gate City community:
- Improved living conditions for nine (9) low-moderate-income households in the community.
- Removal of blighting influences via demolition of two (2) vacant, dilapidated residential structures
Output/Outcome: Rehabilitation of seven (7) residential structures
- Substantial reconstruction of two (2) residential structures
- Demolition of two (2) vacant, dilapidated residential structures
