November!!  It is hard to believe we are here at this point of the year already, but it is my favorite month!!  It is a time of Thanksgiving!!

We celebrate Veteran’s Day this month in which we pause to thank and honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country’s freedoms that we enjoy every day!!   I would like to invite you to join us at Grogan Park for a program this Veteran’s Day at 11:00 am as we celebrate and honor our veterans.

This year is special in that we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the burial of the Unknown American Soldier in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Then, of course, this month we actually celebrate a day of Thanksgiving.  A day that we as a nation have set aside to give God thanks for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us during the past year.  A time when we gather with our loved ones, where there is no expectations of gifts, just the sharing of our bounty and love with each other.

This year we as a town do have much to be thankful for.  During COVID  many of our businesses struggled but they survived and are still with us. We are thankful for that!!  We were able this year to have many of our events which helped to bring life back to our town.  We are thankful for that!!

Many of our merchants have gotten into the spirit of the holiday and has made our town look beautiful and inviting.  I had someone comment to me the other day “that they couldn’t remember when the town looked so pretty.”  Thank you merchants for your contribution !!

As Mayor and town council, we are looking to the future with anticipation and we see wonderful things ahead for Gate City !!  We are thankful for that !!

So, it is my prayer and hope that during this time of Thanksgiving that you and your family will take the opportunity to stop and reflect upon all your blessings and give thanks !!
