GATE CITY, VA Approved Amended to §6-6 Gate City Building Ordinance

On Tuesday, July 11th, 2017 the Gate City Town Council approved an amendment to the Gate City Building Ordinance.

The amended ordinance will allow the Gate City Property Maintenance Official to impose civil penalties for violations of the Property Maintenance Ordinance. If the property owner does not abate or otherwise remedy the property violation after receipt of notice of violation, the owner can be fined $100.00 for the first offense and $200.00 for the second offense. Each day during which the violation is found to have existed shall constitute a separate offense.

It is imperative that property owners in Gate City, Virginia maintain their properties. Properties that violate the Town’s Building Ordinance threaten to lower the property values, create blight and rodent infestation.

The Gate City Town Council wants our property owners to be good neighbors and keep their property mowed and free of junk and debris. The amended ordinance has been enacted to address habitual offenders. The Town is encouraging property owners who receive a notice of violation to act immediately to avoid additional fines.
